Aurangabad

The city of Aurangabad would not be worth describing if it were not for the “Poor man’s Taj Mahal” (Poor Man’s Mahal) and Ellora and Ajanta. The city itself is no different from others we have seen in India. Maybe except for the traffic on the roads. Here, the traffic rules do not apply even more. Moving through a pedestrian, and especially crossing the street, is one of the extreme sports. When you enter the street, the drivers start hunting.

Not far from the city there is an interesting building, somewhat reminiscent of the most famous monument of India. One of the maharajahs who ruled this area decided to build a magnificent mausoleum for his beloved, modeled on the Taj Mahal. Already during the construction, it turned out that he did not have enough funds to build an equally magnificent facility. Therefore, he decided to build a mausoleum for his poor abilities, looking like the poor brother of the building located in Agra. And so, this “poor” man erected a building that, although pretty, is rarely known to tourists visiting India. The Maharaja’s beloved rests there to this day.

Much more interesting are Allora and Ajanta. If you are going to India, be sure to plan to visit these two places. They are known for building magnificent rock temples. In one of the places built inside caves, in the other as magnificent temples carved into the rocks. Given the scale of the project, you can be sure that it was not financed by the above-mentioned not very wealthy maharaja.
