Indonesia is a Muslim country where religion is treated in a fundamentalist way. Few people know, but here candidates for the parliament take a compulsory exam in the knowledge of the Koran. Which has its justification. Parliamentarians without proper knowledge could pass laws contrary to the doctrine of faith.
If someone thinks that a Muslim country must be reluctant to Europeans, they are wrong. Indonesians are hospitable and friendly people. They smile at us and love to be photographed (I invite you to the photo gallery). They take photos with us with their whole families. In the park, a family invites us to participate in a picnic they organized. They treat us to personally prepared Indonesian food. They prefer something that looks like a roasted mouse on a stick.
This is a typical Southeast Asian culture. I always say, if you smile at someone on the street in Warsaw, they will think you are mentally disabled. In Asia, everyone treats smiling as something natural and always responds in the same or wider way. Thus, we walk the streets of Jakarta from the morning and smile at every passer-by.
The capital of Indonesia at night. 10 p.m. The hotel we booked on one of the Internet portals lost our reservation. There are no rooms available. And what will you do to us. With a smile, of course. If you don’t know what to do in such a situation, you need to ask a taxi driver for help. This time it worked, especially since the hotel he chose for us is luxurious. No more savings. It’s in the middle of the night.
Below are some photos from the city. You can see all our photos so far here. And if you liked it, click on the heart and share the post.
