Jodhpur

The city of Jodhpur stretches between two landmark structures. Built in the fifteenth century, a fortress and the twentieth century palace of the maharaja, the ruler of this part of India. Since the surroundings of the city are mainly desert and steppe areas, the maharajahs of Jodhpur have never been as wealthy as the richer places in India. They could afford small harems of several people and expenses related to the construction of small mausoleums.

For each of the rulers, apart from ensuring, thanks to the harem, a large group of offspring (preferably sons who would fight for the throne in the future), the most important thing was to build a suitable burial place. The wives were in fact slaves who never left their rooms because they could only have contact with the maidservants outside the maharaja. You can see the view they had through the tastefully barred windows in one of the photos presented below. Of course, in the context of material goods, they never lacked anything, after all, the role of a man was to ensure the prosperity of each of his wives. India was not and is not the right place for feminists

The city is worth visiting. It has its own atmosphere of real India, completely different from the one you will meet in Delhi. And with a bit of luck, you’ll find a nice hotel that you won’t want to leave. We stayed in a beautiful palace, standing right next to the city bazaar, with a view of the clock tower located in its center. The marble apartment is nearly 80 square meters of luxury. Oddly enough, for quite a little money.

Remember that Jodhpur is a great starting point for the city of Bikaner described here, where you can see the rat temple.
