Pokhara

Pokhara, although it appears on maps as a city, is in fact a mountain village. The basic means of communication here is the horse. This causes some complications, it is enough for the animal to stop to smell a flower or nibble on the grass, and there are immediately traffic jams.

If you are going to get there, the only sensible means of transport is a small plane. But you have to take into account some risks. Well, flights to and from Pokhara are statically the most vulnerable to disaster. Changeable weather means that flights are often delayed or canceled. Despite caution, planes continue to fall. But landing… On an arc, at the foot of the mountain. On one side you see a mountain being avoided, on the other it seems as if the tip of the wing is touching the roofs of the houses. If you are in Nepal, don’t think about the risk, get on the plane and fly.

Pokhara is worth a visit, due to the fact that a large number of refugees from Tibet live here. So you will meet a lot of Tibetan monks here. You can distinguish them from other followers of Buddhism by their red robes. And if you expect spiritual silence in Buddhist monasteries, nothing could be further from the truth. There is a lot of hustle and bustle, laughter, loud conversations here. Monks, outside the time of meditation, live like ordinary people.

A characteristic feature of the Tibetan variety of Buddhism is “thangki”. It is a kind of sacred painting. The paintings are painted with hair-thick brushes. The paintings are delightful. If you want a good souvenir from Nepal, this is an excellent choice. You can buy it here or in Kathmandu. It is best to do it in a place where you will see painters at work, and at the same time you can observe what kind of watchmaking work it is. Remember to bargain. The asking price is always highly inflated.
