One of the delicacies in the Mexican countryside are turtle eggs. They are cheap and supposedly very tasty. And of course illegal. Sea turtles are under protection. That is why there are many organizations in Mexico that do everything to protect these beautiful animals.
Sea turtles are animals that are excellent at navigating. Turtles lay their eggs exactly in the place where they hatched themselves. Therefore, it is always known exactly where to carry out the action of saving the future offspring. The eggs are dug up and reburied in a safe place. They are marked with a plate with the date on which the hatching of the tiny turtles should take place.
If you are at the ocean and you make friends with the local people, you will get information about it, you can take part in an event called ‘liberacion de tortugas’, which is the release of tiny turtles into the ocean. You can carry your baby to the shore, then cheer him on and cheer him on as he runs to the ocean. Some grumblers sometimes need to be shown the right way. Such young turtles begin a difficult journey to adulthood, full of numerous threats. This is a much safer activity than swimming in the ocean.
We are regulars here. So the parents of our friends trust us and let their kids go on a trip to a nearby settlement organized by us. It was here that turtles hatched 2 days ago. Another local attraction are crocodiles. But they are boring. They float in the water and do nothing for hours. In fact, you could go into the water, pull a crocodile by the tail, and it probably wouldn’t even notice.
But let’s get back to the topic. We all have a lot of fun. You need to rub wet sea sand thoroughly into your hands (to cover the smell of humans as much as possible). Then you can take the baby in your arms and carry it to the shore, from where the race to the water begins. Nobody wants to bet me on the winner. And that’s a good thing. My toddler is the biggest slob in the group and reaches the water last. With a little help from my side. He keeps veering off the right track, as if to turn back to me and jump back on my safe hands. In a few years, some of these turtles, as adults, will return to this place. And so the wheel of life will turn.
We spend time on the beach until sunset, which comes very early in these thrones. Then, you have to take the kids to dinner as soon as possible. They are overjoyed, but I don’t know if they are more happy than us.
